Kiawah Island, SC 29455

Seabrook Island Village provides services through a group of trained and vetted volunteers with the goal of helping members of all ages remain independent and active in the community.

Some of the services we provide include transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping, help with basic home chores (e.g., lifting heavy boxes, changing batteries in smoke alarms, taking garbage bins to and from curbside, etc.), computer/electronic assistance, daily check-in calls and caregiver relief. For a full list of services, see Member Benefits.

Annual service membership is $150/year per person. We also offer a temporary membership for $30/month for 3 months for those with short term needs (e.g., surgeries, rehab appointments, etc.).  We are excited to announce that SIV is offering a Social Membership with annual memberships being $50. The application process has two simple steps. First, complete the member application form on our website, which will help us get to know the person and the services requested. Next, we will meet with the person/family member to review service needs and develop a plan.

Navigating Wise Use of Artificial Intelligence (April 14)

Seabrook Island Village (SIV) hosted a workshop on “Navigating Wise Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)” on April 14. This high interest presentation, with an audience of over 50, was led by Chad Droze of Compu-Experts. With so many of us having questions about AI, Chad led the audience through a basic understanding of what AI is and what AI is not, giving examples along the way. It was very surprising to learn that most of us are using some form of AI without even realizing it whenever we use our devices. The software in our devices uses our information and habits to learn patterns from our data to make decisions, predictions, or create new content. Popular AI apps such as ChatGPT can be beneficial to us but we also need to be aware of DeepFake AI such as face swapping, voice cloning, lip syncing, and full body puppeteering, having us question what is real. A highlight of Chad’s presentation was his creation of a live demo of AI using ChatGPT with a real scenario. Audience members then had the opportunity to share their own experiences using AI apps. The program concluded with the reminder that where AI is going in the future leaves us with more questions than answers.
